Trump Forces Congress Back to Work: No More Vacation While America’s Security Crumbles

President Trump is done playing games with a do-nothing Congress. He’s weighing his full constitutional power under Article II, Section 3 to yank lawmakers off their two-week recess and haul them back to Washington to end the disastrous DHS funding shutdown that started February 14.

This mess exploded after House Republicans, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, rightly rejected a weak Senate-passed bill that carved out funding for core border enforcement agencies like ICE and CBP. Senate Majority Leader John Thune pushed the half-measure, exposing deep GOP fractures while Democrats obstructed real security solutions.

The result? Tens of thousands of DHS workers unpaid, airport chaos despite Trump’s emergency order to pay TSA agents, and critical border operations grinding down at a time when strong enforcement is non-negotiable.

Trump isn’t waiting around. He’s using the crisis to ram through real reforms, including killing the filibuster if needed to pass the SAVE America Act and secure honest elections. Hardline conservatives like Sen. Mike Lee are cheering the move, blasting colleagues for jetting off on vacation while patriots at DHS go without paychecks.

Legal experts have long confirmed presidents hold broad authority here, backed by decades-old Justice Department opinions. Enough with the excuses and recesses. Congress works for the American people, not their own schedules. Trump is right to force the issue and put border security and election integrity first. Time to get back to DC and deliver results, or get out of the way.
