Trump Approval Falls to 29% in New American Research Group Poll
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 29%, according to a new American Research Group poll released Monday, putting his overall job approval below 30% for the first time in the pollster’s current measurements.
The survey found that 68% of Americans disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job as president, while 29% approve.
The latest figure represents a decline from American Research Group’s August measurement, when Trump registered 30% approval. The poll also found particularly weak numbers on the economy, with only 26% approving of Trump’s handling of economic issues and 71% disapproving.
The result comes as other recent surveys have also shown significant dissatisfaction with Trump’s performance, although the numbers vary considerably depending on the pollster and the dates of the survey.
For example, a September Reuters/Ipsos poll put Trump’s approval at 35%, up slightly from a record-low 33% in that poll’s previous survey. Meanwhile, the Marquette Law School national survey reported 37% approval in its September polling, with approval on the economy at 28%.
Those differences highlight why a single poll should not necessarily be treated as a complete picture of national public opinion. Polls use different samples, methodologies and field dates, and individual results can differ substantially.
Still, the American Research Group number adds to a series of recent surveys showing Trump’s approval below 40%.
With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, Trump’s approval ratings are receiving increased attention as voters assess his administration and the issues most important to them.
The latest American Research Group numbers are likely to fuel another round of debate over Trump’s standing with the American public.
What do you make of the new 29% approval figure? Do you think it reflects the broader mood in the country, or is this poll an outlier?
