A developing story involving Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., has drawn fresh attention after Philippine authorities confirmed an investigation into allegations concerning the alleged possession of child sexual abuse material. The FBI has also reportedly been contacted, raising questions about whether the case could extend beyond the Philippines.

According to reports published on October 22 and 23, 2026, the investigation followed claims by Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., who said he discovered suspected material among his father’s belongings at a former residence in Cebu, Philippines.

What triggered the investigation?

Reports say Thomas Markle Jr. alerted authorities after allegedly finding suspicious material while going through his father’s possessions. He reportedly contacted Philippine law enforcement and US agencies, including the FBI.

Philippine Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Ty confirmed to Reuters that a specialist task force in Cebu was investigating the matter. Authorities are expected to examine the evidence as part of their inquiry.

However, an investigation is not a finding of guilt, and the allegations must be assessed through the proper legal process.

Thomas Markle denies the allegations

Thomas Markle Sr., 82, has strongly denied the accusations. In comments reported by the Daily Mail, he described them as false and expressed anger over his son’s claims.

No conviction has been reported, and the allegations should not be treated as proven facts while the investigation continues.

Meghan Markle breaks her silence.

Meghan Markle has also responded publicly, saying she is deeply distressed by the reports. She explained that she had been made aware of troubling allegations concerning her father in 2018, when a letter was reportedly sent to London’s Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection.

According to her statement, she was assured the allegations were being investigated at the time. Meghan also said her decision to remain distant from her father and prevent contact with her children was intended to protect them.

She expressed hope that justice would be served and that the safety of children would remain the priority.

Could the FBI become involved?

The reported contact with the FBI has added another dimension to the case. Thomas Markle Jr. reportedly submitted information to US authorities, while Philippine investigators continue their inquiry.

The FBI’s involvement and any potential next steps remain subject to official confirmation. Investigators would need to establish the relevant facts, examine any evidence and determine whether further action is warranted.

For now, attention is focused on the investigation in the Philippines, the examination of the reported evidence and whether US authorities will take further action.

The case has also brought renewed attention to the long-standing estrangement between Meghan and her father, who have been largely out of contact since before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.

As the story develops, official statements and verified findings will be crucial in separating confirmed information from allegations.
