Trump’s Weight Draws Renewed Health Scrutiny as Doctors Urge Weight Loss

President Donald Trump’s weight has become the subject of renewed medical discussion after his latest reported physical showed him at 238 pounds and 6 feet 3 inches tall. That puts his estimated BMI at about 29.7, just below the BMI threshold of 30 traditionally used to classify obesity.

The issue gained attention after reports that Trump has gained roughly 14 pounds since his 2025 physical and more than 20 pounds compared with some earlier reported measurements. White House physicians have encouraged him to improve his diet, increase physical activity and continue losing weight.

Dr. Scott Kahan, director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness, warned that obesity is generally a significant risk factor for numerous health problems and said addressing weight should be a priority for protecting Trump’s health. His comments were about the general risks associated with obesity and were not a diagnosis that Trump currently has obesity.

The White House, meanwhile, has emphasized Trump’s reported energy and activity levels and maintains that he is healthy. Trump also continues to play golf and has previously spoken publicly about his diet and weight.

The discussion highlights the distinction between being close to a BMI threshold and having a medical diagnosis. BMI is only one measure used in assessing health and does not by itself establish an individual’s overall health condition.

The reported figures have nevertheless renewed questions about whether Trump should make weight management a greater focus as he continues serving as president.
