Drone Attack Hits Moscow Oil Refinery as War Reaches Deeper Into Russia
A major oil refinery in Moscow’s Kapotnya district was damaged in a Ukrainian drone attack on Sunday, according to Russian officials and multiple reports.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said drones reached the premises of the refinery, while Russian authorities reported a large-scale drone assault across Moscow and the surrounding region. Ukraine has not publicly commented on the latest attack.
The Moscow Oil Refinery, operated by Gazprom Neft, is one of Russia’s major fuel-processing facilities. Reports estimate that it supplies around 40% of Moscow’s fuel market, making any disruption potentially significant for the capital’s fuel supply.
The strike comes as Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian energy infrastructure. The International Energy Agency reported this month that repeated attacks have contributed to declining Russian refinery output and growing pressure on domestic fuel supplies.
The latest attack underscores how the war continues to reach critical infrastructure far from the front lines.
As the conflict enters another phase, the question is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore: How much further will the war spread inside Russia?
