Andrew and Tristan Tate’s Lawyer Alleges ‘Roach-Infested’ Jail Conditions

Andrew and Tristan Tate’s legal team is raising fresh concerns over the brothers’ conditions at the Federal Detention Center in Miami, where they remain in custody while fighting extradition to the United Kingdom.

Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, alleges that the brothers were moved into a cell described as “roach-infested,” with no functioning air conditioning and no hot water. Andrew Tate has separately claimed that he could see numerous cockroaches on the walls and ceiling and described the conditions as increasingly difficult.

McBride has said the legal team intends to pursue action over the alleged conditions, characterizing them as retaliation and a violation of the brothers’ rights. The Bureau of Prisons, however, has declined to discuss the individual case, citing privacy and security considerations, while saying FDC Miami operates under applicable federal regulations and policies.

The brothers have been held in Miami since July as they contest a British extradition request involving allegations including rape and sex trafficking. Both men deny wrongdoing, and they have not been convicted of those allegations. A U.S. judge denied their request for release earlier this month.

The allegations have sparked a wider debate online: Should poor prison conditions be seen as part of the consequences of detention, or should every detainee be guaranteed basic standards of humane treatment regardless of the accusations against them?
