BREAKING: Former special counsel Jack Smith told members of the House Judiciary Committee that his team found “proof beyond a reasonable doubt” that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the 2020 election.
In closed-door testimony, Smith said Trump also repeatedly attempted to obstruct justice in the classified documents investigation after leaving office.
He described evidence showing Trump knowingly retained highly sensitive materials at Mar-a-Lago, including in unsecured locations.
Smith said Trump and his allies sought to exploit the violence of Jan. 6 to pressure lawmakers to delay election certification. The cases were later dropped after Trump’s reelection, but Smith said the evidence remains unchanged.
He added that the decision to prosecute was driven solely by the facts and the law, not politics.
