Mike Johnson Warns of Trump Investigations if Democrats Win House

House Speaker Mike Johnson warned Republicans in June that a Democratic takeover of the House in the 2026 midterm elections could bring extensive congressional investigations involving President Donald Trump and people in his political orbit.

Speaking at the Faith & Freedom Coalition summit, Johnson said impeachment would “not even be the big concern.” He predicted that Democrats could turn House committees into investigative bodies and examine Trump’s family, Cabinet members, donors and allies.

Johnson also told the audience, “I run the protection program. I’ll take care of you.” His comments were framed as a warning about what could happen if Republicans lost control of the House.

The warning comes as Democrats have publicly discussed potential investigations if they regain the House. The Washington Post reported this month that Democratic lawmakers are preparing possible inquiries into Trump’s business activities, administration policies and dealings involving his family.

The political stakes are also visible in Congress now. Johnson recently ended the House session early ahead of the midterms, delaying consideration of Republican Rep. Thomas Massie’s impeachment resolution targeting Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth until lawmakers return after the election.

Whether Democrats actually gain control of the House—and what investigations would ultimately take place—will depend on the November election results and subsequent congressional actions.
