Real Sociedad and Al-Hilal Battle for Chelsea Defender Mamadou Sarr
Chelsea defender Mamadou Sarr has emerged as a transfer target for both Real Sociedad and Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal, with discussions reportedly underway over the young centre-back’s future.
Real Sociedad are understood to be pushing for a season-long loan for the 20-year-old Senegal international as they look to strengthen their defence ahead of the new campaign. The Spanish club are reportedly impressed by Sarr’s potential and believe regular first-team football in La Liga could help accelerate his development.
However, Real Sociedad face competition from Al-Hilal, who are also making an approach for the Chelsea defender. Reports indicate that the Saudi club have already outlined their interest, with negotiations involving the relevant parties continuing.
Sarr joined Chelsea from Strasbourg in 2025 for a reported €20 million and signed a long-term contract running until 2033. Despite his potential, opportunities at Stamford Bridge have been limited, making a temporary move increasingly possible.
The defender’s next destination could therefore come down to a choice between continued development in Europe with Real Sociedad or a move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal.
With the transfer window entering its final stages, Chelsea will now have to decide what is best for Sarr’s development — and whether a loan move or a permanent transfer is the preferred solution.
Real Sociedad want him. Al-Hilal want him. Chelsea hold the cards. The race for Mamadou Sarr is on. 🚨🔵
