Shockwaves as Trump’s $2.8B taxpayer-funded ‘gift’ exposed: ‘My God’

A planned $2.8 billion U.S. weapons package for Israel under President Donald Trump is drawing intense criticism after details emerged showing that most of the purchase would be financed with U.S. taxpayer-funded Foreign Military Financing.

According to Associated Press, the proposed package includes 40,000 2,000-pound bombs — 20,000 MK-84s and 20,000 BLU-117s. The weapons are among the most powerful conventional munitions in the U.S. arsenal.

The arrangement is being described by critics as a taxpayer-funded “gift” because Foreign Military Financing allows U.S. funds to be provided to Israel, which can then use the money to purchase American-made weapons.

The proposal has already triggered opposition on Capitol Hill. Rep. Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said he would not clear the transfer at this time, arguing that the administration had not provided sufficient assurances that the weapons would be used in accordance with U.S. law and with appropriate protections for civilians.

The controversy has also reached Trump’s former allies. Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized the proposal, saying, “We did not vote for this” and asking, “My God, what comes next?”

The Trump administration’s proposed package comes amid continuing international scrutiny of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and debate in Washington over how much U.S. military assistance should be provided.

For now, the $2.8 billion package remains a planned weapons transfer rather than a completed sale, and the congressional review process is still unfolding.
