Trump Makes Crude Remark About Melania as Cabinet Officials Laugh
President Donald Trump sparked attention during a Friday Oval Office event after making a crude joke about his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, while recounting an incident involving an escalator.
Trump was discussing a malfunction involving an escalator when he explained that he had reached toward Melania to steady himself. He then added that he had grabbed her “back” — before joking that it could have been “another part” of her body.
The comment prompted laughter and giggles from officials present, including Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Medicare chief Mehmet Oz.
Trump has previously told a similar version of the escalator story, including during remarks earlier this year. The latest comment quickly drew attention because of its sexual undertone and its reference to the First Lady in front of senior administration officials.
The remark also revived memories of Trump’s controversial 2005 “Access Hollywood” recording, which became a major issue during the 2016 presidential campaign.
