Trump’s Approval Rating Turns Negative Across Most States as New Map Reveals Growing Divide

A new state-by-state polling map offers a detailed look at how Americans view President Donald Trump roughly 20 months into his second term.

According to Civiqs’ rolling tracking poll of registered voters, Trump’s national approval rating stands at 33%, while 61% disapprove, putting his net approval at -28 points.

The state-level numbers show an even more divided picture. Trump remains above water in only a small group of strongly Republican states, including Wyoming (+19), North Dakota (+11), West Virginia (+9), and Arkansas (+9). Idaho and Kansas are at +2, while Oklahoma and Montana are at +1.

At the other end of the map, Trump’s weakest numbers are concentrated in Democratic-leaning states. Hawaii records a -61 net approval rating, followed by Maryland at -56, Vermont at -53 and Massachusetts at -51. California stands at -49.

The battleground states are also showing negative numbers. The latest figures cited by Newsweek put Florida at -16, Ohio at -18, Nevada at -26 and North Carolina at -16.

The data also shows how much some states have shifted since Trump began his second term in January 2025. Wyoming, for example, moved from +47 to +19, while North Dakota fell from +34 to +11.

The polling does not represent a prediction of the upcoming elections, but it provides a snapshot of voter sentiment heading into the 2026 midterm period.

The big question now: Are these numbers a temporary dip, or are they signaling a broader change in how voters view Trump’s second-term presidency?
