Woman Gives Birth to Baby Boy in a KFC Parking Lot, and What She Names Him Couldn’t Be More Fitting

When Katie Murphy realized she’d be giving birth in the parking lot of a KFC, she had the perfect name in mind.

On Aug. 29, the 33-year-old was being driven to the hospital by her partner Stephen Kirby, 32, when she began to realize she was about to have her baby. They pulled into a parking lot at a KFC off the A38 in Bromsgrove in the U.K., where Stephen called an ambulance.

But just moments later, Katie gave birth to their baby son in the couple’s car. At 9:35 p.m., Stephen helped deliver their little one before the paramedics arrived

When the ambulance dispatcher was trying to locate our location, the only place we could find was the KFC,” Katie told SWNS. “As my partner pulled into the car park, and as he made his way round to the passenger side and opened the door, he caught my son just in time.

“Thankfully, the ambulances arrived shortly after and the amazing staff took us to the hospital directly with my shell-shocked partner following closely behind us in the car,” she added.

Katie’s baby weighed 7 lbs., 8 oz., and although she named him Cody, he’ll be known as Colonel Cody.

“We were famous amongst the midwifery staff, and they even ordered KFC for dinner,” said Katie. “It was decided that we have to take him to KFC for his first birthday and get him his first weekend job there.”

“We call him Colonel Cody, and I think that nickname will definitely stick with him for life,” she continued. “It was definitely not the birth I expected, but it was worth every bit of pain, and now he has a very weird story to tell his school friends when he grows up.”

Katie’s partner Stephen said they had a sense that the baby was coming and visited the hospital that morning. But doctors told them they were fine, and they drove home — although Katie had contractions all the way back.

“They got more intense when we were at home, but Katie didn’t want to go back to [the] hospital yet in case we were turned away,” he explained. “Finally at around 9 p.m., she was in so much discomfort that we just said, ‘Let’s go,’ and I got her in a car to get to the hospital.”

“The drive is around half an hour, but around halfway through the journey, Katie said she could feel something and knew the baby was coming,” continued Stephen. “I was on the phone to the ambulance, and they were asking what our location was, but we were on the A38 and there was nowhere to pull in.”
