🚧“THEY WANTED AN 8-FOOT WALL… THE VILLAGE SAID NO” — The entire lakeside town froze when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s plan for a high privacy fence around their $5.35 million Bratenahl mansion was shot down by village planners. In a rare public snag for the newlyweds, the Architectural Review Board cited code that caps lakefront fences at 2½ feet unless they’re mostly see-through — forcing the couple to settle for a shorter barrier that doesn’t even enclose the whole property. Neighbors say a spoken alarm now warns anyone who gets too close. Watch the full, surprising Ohio mansion security battle here. 👇👇👇

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce just ran into a problem money usually solves. It did not.

The newlyweds wanted an 8-foot fence around their new lakeside mansion in Bratenahl, Ohio. Village planners said no. Twice.

According to the Daily Mail, the couple planned a high fence to wall in the estate that sits along Lake Erie. The Bratenahl Architectural Review Board either scrapped or ignored the request at two separate meetings earlier this month and in August. Local code caps fences around lakefront homes at two and a half feet — unless they are at least 75 percent see-through — to preserve lake views and property values.

An 8-foot solid wall would have blocked those views. The board held the line.

Kelce bought the 21,000-square-foot house in March for $5.35 million, before the couple married in July at Madison Square Garden. The property has eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a game room and a theater. It sits a few miles from where the Kansas City Chiefs tight end grew up in Cleveland Heights. It is now part of a real-estate portfolio that already includes homes in Kansas, New York, Tennessee, Rhode Island and California.

Discussion with neighbors and village officials convinced the couple to settle for a lower fence that does not enclose the entire property. Kelce was reportedly “gracious” when dealing with officials about the structural request. Page Six reached out to Swift’s representatives for comment.

They did not walk away empty-handed on security. Page Six exclusively reported that the couple installed a warning alarm around the house. A neighbor who approached the property received a spoken warning not to pass onto the grounds after getting too close.

“A neighbor approached the house and got a voice warning about not passing onto the property after getting too close to the house,” the neighbor told Page Six.

The move itself has not caused much commotion, according to people in the area. Veteran real estate agent Patricia Knight Gary of Howard Hanna realty told Page Six she was not aware of any additional fencing plans for the village beyond what was already public. “Something may have been set up at that particular home, which is their private estate, but in terms of any additional fencing for the village, I’m not aware of that,” she said. “We found out publicly when everyone else did [about their move].”

Neighbors, she added, are excited at the chance they might catch a glimpse of the newlyweds.

That is the tension at the center of this story. One of the most famous couples on the planet bought a $5.35 million mansion on Lake Erie and tried to put an 8-foot fence around it. A small village architectural board said the fence would violate rules written to protect views and property values. The couple backed down, accepted a shorter fence that does not fully enclose the land, and added an audible alarm instead.

Kelce handled the talks with officials without drama. The board held two meetings and did not approve the original plan. Code is code. Lakefront homes in Bratenahl are not allowed to disappear behind solid eight-foot walls.

The couple have taken other precautions. The spoken alarm is already active. The shorter fence is the compromise after talks with neighbors and the village. The house remains visible enough that an aerial shot of the property has circulated, and locals still talk about possibly spotting Swift and Kelce.

Privacy is the point of a lakeside estate. An 8-foot fence would have delivered it. Village rules written to keep Lake Erie visible from neighboring properties blocked that solution. The couple adapted. They did not get the wall they wanted. They got a lower barrier, an alarm that talks to trespassers, and a public reminder that even global celebrities still have to negotiate with a local architectural review board.

The mansion is not a secret. The purchase became public like every other major move they have made. Knight Gary said the neighborhood learned about the sale the same way everyone else did. Excitement, not outrage, seems to be the local mood. People want a glimpse. The couple want a perimeter.

They now have a partial fence and a voice that warns strangers to stay back. That is the settlement after two board meetings and conversations with the people who live next door.

Swift and Kelce married in July. The Ohio house was already in Kelce’s name. The security push came after they began using it as a private estate. The 8-foot plan died on the books. The shorter fence and the alarm survived.

Bratenahl sits on the lake. The code exists so that walls do not erase the water from the view of other owners. The most famous couple in America asked for an exception. The village said the rule still applies.

They settled. Kelce was gracious. The alarm is on. The fence is lower than they wanted and does not wrap the entire property. The house still has eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a theater and a game room. It still sits on Lake Erie a short drive from Kelce’s childhood streets.

The snag was not a scandal. It was a local board enforcing a height limit written to protect sightlines. Two of the most powerful names in entertainment and sports still had to accept two and a half feet of solid fence unless the rest was see-through.

That is the story. Not a feud. Not a lawsuit. A fence request that did not survive two meetings, a compromise that followed talks with neighbors, and a talking alarm that now greets anyone who drifts too close to the lawn.
