🚨 BREAKING: Russell Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault
British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a high-profile criminal trial at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday, November 5, 2026, after a jury considered allegations involving six women. Brand, 51, was convicted of four offences involving four women. He was also acquitted of two additional rape charges and one charge of attempted indecent assault.
The convictions mark a major development in a case that has attracted international attention and placed renewed scrutiny on the conduct of powerful figures in the entertainment industry.
What happened during the trial?
The prosecution argued that Brand used his fame, influence and position in the entertainment industry to exploit women. The allegations involved incidents said to have occurred between 2004 and 2009, at locations including a radio station, a DVD recording set and Brand’s home.
Prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC described Brand as manipulative and calculating, telling the jury that the women had experienced a pattern of behaviour in which his initially charming manner could change dramatically.
Brand denied the charges throughout the proceedings. During his evidence, he maintained that he had never forced anyone into sexual activity, arguing that the encounters were consensual or that accounts of them had been misrepresented.
His defence team challenged the complainants’ accounts and questioned the circumstances in which the allegations were reported.
After deliberating for more than eight hours over two days, the jury returned guilty verdicts on four counts.
Brand taken into custody as sentencing approaches
Following the verdict, the judge indicated that Brand should expect a significant prison sentence. He was remanded in custody rather than released on bail.
He is due to be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, November 9, 2026. The precise length of any sentence will be determined by the court.
The Metropolitan Police praised the women who came forward, describing their courage and determination as central to the outcome. Investigators said they had spoken to more than 100 witnesses, taken over 400 witness statements and reviewed more than 1,400 documents during the investigation.
How the case began
The police investigation followed public allegations reported by The Times, The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches in September 2023.
The reports prompted women to contact police with accounts of alleged sexual offences. The investigation developed into a major inquiry that ultimately led to the charges heard at trial.
Brand became widely known through stand-up comedy, television and radio presenting, and Hollywood films including Get Him to the Greek and Arthur. He was previously married to singer Katy Perry.
What happens next?
The guilty verdicts do not mean Brand was convicted of every charge brought against him. He was found guilty of one rape and three sexual assaults, while the jury acquitted him of two other rape charges and attempted indecent assault.
The immediate next step is his sentencing on November 9, when the court will decide the punishment for the four offences.
The case has reignited conversations about accountability, celebrity influence and the importance of listening to people who report sexual violence.
What are your thoughts on the verdict? Should public figures face the same accountability as everyone else, regardless of their fame or influence?
