So basically, Donald Trump fired a disproportionate amount of Black Women from their jobs in his “Federal Workforce Cuts” so they all decided to run for office on literally every level and won ? 🔥🔥🔥

What happens when people who believe their careers have been pushed aside decide they no longer want to stand on the sidelines? They enter the political arena themselves.

The 2026 US midterm elections have produced a powerful political story involving federal workforce cuts, Black women’s employment struggles and a new generation of candidates seeking elected office.

During President Donald Trump’s second administration, sweeping government restructuring and job reductions disrupted the careers of thousands of federal employees. Black women were among those reporting particularly painful consequences.

Now, following the November 3 elections, former federal workers and women from historically underrepresented communities are making their presence felt in American politics.

The Federal Workforce Cuts That Sparked a Political Backlash
The controversy began with the Trump administration’s aggressive restructuring of the federal government, including mass layoffs, agency reductions and the dismantling of diversity, equity and inclusion programmes.

An investigation published by ProPublica in June 2025 highlighted the experiences of Black women who lost federal government positions during the administration’s cuts.

Several women described being removed from their positions despite years of public service and questioned whether racial and gender discrimination played a role.

Attorneys representing affected employees also raised concerns about the disproportionate impact on women and nonwhite workers.

The scale of the problem was difficult to establish because the administration did not release comprehensive demographic figures for everyone dismissed.

The Institute for Women’s Policy Research also reported that Black women lost 251,000 jobs between January and August 2025 across the broader US economy. That figure was not limited to federal employees, but it highlighted the wider employment challenges facing Black women.

Some Former Federal Employees Decided to Fight Back Through Politics
One of the most interesting developments surrounding the 2026 elections is the number of former government employees who decided to run for Congress.

According to The Washington Post, three former federal employees won or appeared poised to win congressional seats after running as Democrats and flipping previously Republican-held districts.

Among them were:
– Zach Dembo: A former Justice Department attorney who resigned amid concerns about political interference. He won Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District.

– Sam Forstag: A former US Forest Service smoke jumper and union leader whose campaign was motivated partly by workforce reductions affecting federal firefighters. His opponent conceded in Montana’s 1st District.

– Nancy Lacore: A former US Navy admiral who was dismissed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Her Republican opponent conceded in South Carolina’s 1st District, although the race was still awaiting an official call.

Their victories represent a significant political development for former public servants who believe their experience gives them a unique perspective on government accountability.

Black Women Also Made History Across American Politics
Perhaps the most remarkable part of the 2026 elections was the number of historic victories involving Black women and other underrepresented communities.
