Russell Brand has been found guilty on 1 count of rape and 3 counts of sexual assault.
British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a closely watched four-week criminal trial at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The verdict, delivered on Thursday, November 5, 2026, marks a dramatic development in a case that has attracted international attention and raised serious questions about the abuse of celebrity influence and power.
Brand, 51, was convicted of four sexual offences involving four women. The allegations related to incidents that occurred between 2004 and 2009, during the period when he was becoming one of Britain’s most recognisable entertainers.
Four guilty verdicts after weeks of testimony
The jury found Brand guilty of one rape charge and three sexual assault charges. However, he was acquitted of two other rape charges and one charge of attempted indecent assault.
The case involved six women who brought allegations concerning incidents spanning approximately a decade, from 1999 to 2009.
During the proceedings, prosecutors argued that Brand had used his growing celebrity status, influence and professional connections to place himself in situations where he could sexually exploit women.
The prosecution described him as manipulative and calculated, arguing that the women involved had experienced deeply distressing encounters.
Brand denied the allegations
Throughout the trial, Brand denied forcing anyone into sexual activity and pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
His defence challenged the prosecution’s evidence and questioned the circumstances surrounding the allegations, including the passage of time and the influence of media reports that emerged in 2023.
Brand also acknowledged his previous promiscuous lifestyle but maintained that his sexual relationships had been consensual.
The jury ultimately accepted the prosecution’s case on four of the seven charges.
Police and prosecutors respond to the verdict
Following the convictions, representatives of the Metropolitan Police praised the women who came forward, highlighting their courage and determination in participating in a lengthy criminal investigation and trial.
Investigators said they had interviewed more than 100 witnesses, collected hundreds of witness statements and examined thousands of documents while building the case.
The Crown Prosecution Service also stressed that celebrity status does not place anyone above the law.
Russell Brand faces prison sentence
Following the verdict, Brand was denied bail and remanded in custody.
Judge Joel Bennathan indicated that Brand should expect a significant custodial sentence, with sentencing scheduled for Monday, November 9, 2026.
The convictions carry serious potential prison consequences under English law.
The case represents a dramatic fall for a man who once enjoyed enormous success in British television, radio, stand-up comedy and Hollywood films.
A case that has attracted worldwide attention
Allegations against Brand first received widespread public attention in September 2023 following investigations published by Channel 4’s Dispatches, The Times and The Sunday Times.
The subsequent police investigation led to criminal charges and eventually the four-week trial.
For the women involved, the verdict represents the conclusion of a lengthy legal process that required them to revisit deeply personal experiences in court.
As Brand awaits sentencing, the story continues to generate international discussion about accountability, sexual violence and the responsibility that comes with fame and influence.
