BREAKING RIGHT NOW: RUSSELL BRAND FOUND GUILTY OF ONE COUNT OF RAPE AND THREE COUNTS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT.
British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a major four-week criminal trial at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The verdict, delivered on Thursday, November 5, 2026, marks a dramatic turning point in a case that has attracted international attention and reignited serious conversations about sexual violence, celebrity influence and accountability.
The 51-year-old entertainer was convicted of four offences involving four women. The jury found him not guilty of two other rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault.
What happened in court?
The trial examined allegations concerning incidents between 2004 and 2009, during the period when Brand was building his reputation as a comedian, television presenter and Hollywood actor.
Six women gave evidence during the proceedings. Their allegations described encounters in different locations, including a London property, a radio station and entertainment-industry workplaces.
Prosecutors argued that Brand had used his celebrity status, influence and access to women to commit sexual offences.
The jury considered the evidence before reaching its verdicts after deliberations lasting several hours.
Brand Faces a Significant Prison Sentence
Following the guilty verdicts, the judge, Mr Justice Joel Bennathan, warned Brand that he was facing a significant custodial sentence.
The judge indicated that imprisonment was inevitable and ordered that Brand be remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.
Russell Brand Had Denied the Charges
Throughout the proceedings, Brand pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Giving evidence, he denied engaging in non-consensual sexual activity and maintained that the encounters had been consensual.
He acknowledged his past promiscuity and described aspects of his earlier lifestyle as reckless, but insisted that consent had always been fundamental.
The jury ultimately accepted some of the prosecution’s allegations and rejected others, resulting in four guilty verdicts and three acquittals.
Police Reveal Further Investigations
The case may not be the end of Brand’s legal troubles.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that investigations into two additional rape allegations involving two women remain ongoing. Files relating to those allegations have been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Police have also encouraged anyone who may have experienced sexual offences to come forward.
Detectives praised the women who testified, highlighting their courage in revisiting deeply personal experiences during the criminal proceedings.
A Major Moment in the Entertainment Industry
Brand once enjoyed enormous popularity through comedy, television, radio and Hollywood films. Over the years, he also developed a substantial online following.
Today’s convictions represent a dramatic development in his public and professional life.
The case has renewed discussions about the responsibility that comes with fame and the importance of taking allegations of sexual violence seriously, regardless of someone’s celebrity status.
For the four women whose allegations resulted in convictions, the verdict marks a significant moment after years of waiting for the case to reach court.
The next major development will come on November 9, when Russell Brand returns to court for sentencing.
What do you think about today’s verdict? Should celebrities who commit serious crimes face the same consequences as everyone else, regardless of their fame and influence?
