Trump Announces New “AI Force” and Plans to Appoint an AI Czar
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to create an “AI Force” and appoint a new artificial intelligence adviser, or “AI czar,” to oversee the development of the rapidly expanding technology sector.
Trump said the initiative is intended to protect and advance America’s AI industry, which he described as a major driver of future economic growth. He also said his administration would not seek to unnecessarily restrict the industry’s development.
The president compared the proposed AI Force with the Space Force, which was established during his first term. However, Trump has not yet provided detailed information about the proposed group’s structure, responsibilities or when the new AI czar will be appointed.
The announcement comes as concerns continue to grow in the United States over AI’s rapid development, including questions surrounding safety, regulation and its potential impact on society and the economy.
Trump previously had an AI czar, venture capitalist David Sacks, who left the formal role earlier this year and became an external adviser.
The proposed AI Force could become a significant part of the administration’s approach to balancing AI innovation, economic growth and concerns about potential risks.
