Trump Announces New “AI Force” as AI Czar Pick Nears
President Donald Trump announced on September 19 that his administration is creating a new “AI Force” aimed at overseeing the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence industry. He compared the initiative to the Space Force, which was established during his first term.
Trump also said he plans to appoint a new AI “czar” in the near future. However, he has not yet revealed who will fill the position or provided details about the proposed force’s structure, budget or specific authority.
The announcement comes amid a growing debate in Washington and Silicon Valley over how much government oversight AI should face. Trump has said he does not want regulations to “hinder or stifle” AI development, while some technology leaders and policymakers have called for stronger safeguards as AI systems become more capable.
Trump has also argued that existing criminal and civil laws can be used to address harmful or illegal uses of AI. The White House has not yet provided further details about how the proposed AI Force would operate.
The next major question is who Trump chooses as AI czar — and what authority the new position will actually have.
