Patrick Mahomes’ kids share sweet messages for their dad ahead of his return … Read more
When quarterback Patrick Mahomes arrived at Chiefs (Shop Chiefs Fan Gear) training camp in July, no one knew what to expect after he’d had surgery to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee during a game in December. But Mahomes moved well at camp in St. Joseph and is expected to start Monday night against the Broncos in the season opener for both teams.
Part of Mahomes’ pre-game routine is meeting with his wife, Brittany, and the couple’s three children: Sterling, Bronze and Golden. At camp, Mahomes admitted the worst part of his recovery from the knee injury involved his children. “Honestly, the toughest part was the beginning, not being able to get up and chase my kids around. I know that sounds crazy, but being a dad and being active, I always want to be around my kids and playing and stuff like that. I think that was tough,” Mahomes told reporters on the first day of camp. “Once I was able to do that, it kind of motivated me to kind of keep getting better and better. So, when Bronze has a t-ball game, or Sterling’s playing soccer, I can be out there with them. I always knew I was going to get back here and just because of my mindset and the people that we have around me. I think once I was able to do that, it kind of mentally helped me get through this process.”
